Commonly mistaken as two different HVAC technologies, these two terms VRV & VRF actually use the same type of HVAC technology. This technology circulates only the minimum amount of refrigerant needed at any one time and enables individual climate control of air conditioning zones. This mechanism introduced the opportunity for end users to individually control several air conditionings zones at one time.

Based on Inverter technology compressors, the world’s first use of variable refrigerant flow control was introduced, when Daikin launched the VRV air conditioning system in 1982. And Daikin Industries Ltd has trademark the VRV term (which stands for Variable Refrigerant Volume).

Companies like Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Toshiba, LG, Trane, Carrier use the term VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) for their similar HVAC systems. And eventually, both VRV & VRF are being used to represent this type of systems.
As a system, VRV / VRF has a lot to offer in terms of efficiency, running costs, flexibility in use, and control. As with any system, it suits some buildings and applications better than others.

A VRV / VRF air conditioning system is a multi-split air conditioning system in which one outdoor unit can be connected to multiple indoor units.

Each indoor unit is individually controllable by its user and a variety of unit styles can be mixed and matched to suit individual area requirements (e.g. wall mounted, cassettes, ceiling suspend, floor standing and ducted units). This allows for flexibility in layout, with the allowance for connection for more than 50 to 60 indoor units to 1 outdoor unit.
The outdoor unit can be made up of a number of modules to create the required capacity, this modular design further demonstrates the flexibility of the VRV / VRF.

Furthermore, the VRV / VRF has large allowances for piping length and level difference provide a flexible layout.
If the VRV / VRF sounds like an air-conditioning system that will suit your commercial building, office or even home needs or if you are looking to replace your existing VRV / VRF system,
