Hosting a party at home? Here is how to keep your guests cool!

During the festive season, you have decorated your home, cooked up a feast, prepared lots of fun-filled activities and perhaps even bought a brand-new TV for the high-def experience. But there is one factor that you might have overlook for your party – the heat.

While it might be simple to just turn on the air conditioning when your guests arrive, it may not be sufficient to lower the temperature with all the new entrants and festivities going on. Residential air conditioning systems aren’t designed with large crowds in mind, but there may be occasional times when you’ll have a large crowd at your house, such as when you decide to hold a party.

What can be done to help relive the heat?

Lower the temperature a few hours before guests arrives

Lower the temperature by 2-3 Degree Celsius below your usual setting or comfort level. This may seem too cold at first, but because people are generators of heat, the temperature will rise quickly as more people start to gather in your house!

And if you are cooking the food you are going to serve with the hob burners, oven and other cooking appliances turn on more heat will be emitted in your space.

Add-on to the performance of your air conditioning

Elevate the cooling system by turning on the ceiling fan on low, or standby a standing fan where guests may be congregating at. This helps to create a cooling effect, whenever flowing air wicks sweat from skin.

Try to keep the doors closed, as every time the door opens, heat from the outdoors will rush in. This introduces hot air and humidity into the cool indoor areas, which can be a challenge to the cooling system performance.

Have plenty of cold beverages readily available

So that you and your guests can stay cool and hydrated. Apart from cold beverages, it is also important to include water in your menu. Whilst alcohol, carbonated drinks, freshly squeeze fruit juices are all great options to have, water is the best way to keep cool and hydrated. Encourage your guests to drink water by making it readily available.

Schedule an air conditioning service before the party

As a precaution, book for an air conditioning inspection and cleaning as part of your pre-party cleaning, to avoid any break down during the party. A clean and well-maintained air conditioning will run more efficiently and keep costs lower.
